Worms Eat My Garbage: How to Set Up & Maintain a Worm Composting System
Published in Paperback by Flower Press (01 November, 1997)
Authors: Mary Appelhof and Mary F. Fenton
Average review score:

This book has taught me the essientials to learning about...
This book has taught me about what i need for my worm farm that im getting in a week or two....Only problem is there are almost absoloutly no wormdealers here

Well i rate this book a five because it explains the book clearly and doesnt have mumbojumbo throughout the book I read this book in one day i ate it up

...

Hey! I loved this book!
This was a fun book about the little creepy crawlers! It gives a very solid scientific introduction to the little critters and answers most of your basic questions about worms. The focus of the book has to with vermiculture--the use of worms for developing super-rich compost material for organic gardens. Vermicompost is without a doubt the best composting material available for organic gardeners, and setting up your own vermicomposting bin is the best way to get yourself some of this richly organic fertilizer.

The book details how you can set up your own vermicompost bin, either by making it yourself or by purchasing a commercial worm bin. It also even describes how some school systems have saved themselves bundles of money by having worms eat the schoolkids' lunch scraps rather than pay for commercial garbagemen to haul the stuff away!

I would most strongly recommend this book for anybody interested in either worms, vermicomposting or organic gardening. It's a very fun read!

The Bible of Worm Composting
Worms Eat My Garbage is an informative and fun guide to worm composting (vermicomposting). It is no wonder this book has been accepted as The Guide by worm composters- it is a complete guide to planning, setting up, and using a worm composting system either indoors or outdoors. Different end goals are discussed (more worms, versus more compost) in view of the maintenance required to achieve the goals. A happy medium is recommended. A list of organic kitchen waste that can be composted is included. The author does not shy away from composting small amounts of meat, which the worms will gladly eat, though it may smell.

The amount of information about the life of worms is just right. The reproduction of worms is described at a layperson level, as well as other interesting worm facts, like the cut a worm in half myth.

The book is very easy reading, written at a 5th grade level, making it appropriate for classroom use or science projects. The illustrators' drawings make the book fun as well as aiding visual learners.

The author recommends commercial bins as well as homemade designs, with pictures of each. Plans for some homemade bins are included.

I enjoyed the section on a zero-waste society. With standard glass, metal and paper recycling, and the worms to recycle organic waste, the only items in my trash are plastics. This means I can go much longer between emptying my trash, mostly because it doesn't smell but also because the volume is reduced.

I was disappointed that the book, although it is very comprehensive, does not discuss composting items rather than kitchen waste and paper for worm bedding. For instance, animal waste can be composted using red worms, as long as the compost is not placed on plants or trees used for human consumption. Also, the book didn't mention that scrap organic cloth, such as cotton, wool, and linen, can be composted.

Astrology Revealed
Published in Paperback by Simon & Schuster (March, 2000)
Author: Paul Fenton-Smith
Average review score:

An excellent introduction to astrology!
This would have to be the best all-round introduction to astrology I have read! I wish I had access to it when I was studying - it is concise, relatively inexpensive and covers a lot more than I thought it would when I read the title.

The author, Paul Fenton-Smith founded the Academy of Psychic Sciences in 1985, and has studied and practiced around Australia, in Europe and the USA since 1978. He is also a regular guest on radio and television.

Paul also teaches palmistry and tarot reading and has a private practice as a clairvoyant and counsellor. A best-selling author of books on palmistry, tarot and astrology, Paul's aim in teaching and writing is to demystify the psychic sciences.

Astrology Revealed is not a large book, but as I mentioned previously, it is concise and practical. As well as covering the usual topics found in introductions to astrology - history, signs, houses and planets; it also goes into explaining many other important aspects of astrology.

The book is divided into four parts. Part One (Introduction) explains what astrology is and also goes into the history and purpose of astrology.

Part Two (The Basics) looks at the signs of the zodiac, the houses, the solar chart, plus the Moon and its phases. I particularly liked the way the signs of the zodiac were explained. Each sign was given its planetary symbol, glyph, element, type and ruler. The author then goes on to describe the themes associated with each sign and then under separate headings looks at relationships, health, negative traits, and 'lessons' for the relevant sign.

In Part Three (The Planets), Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are explained in terms of their symbolism and interpretation in each of the twelve zodiac signs.

The final section, Part Four (A Deeper Awareness), return charts, the Moon's Nodes, Ascendant, progressions, planetary aspects, chart reading procedure, relationships and astrology, health and sun signs, practice charts and advice on gaining practical experience are all explained.

Astrology Revealed has over 200 illustrations plus many real-life examples that are used to help you understand and apply the concepts presented.

Anybody who has looked into this complex subject will appreciate the amount of effort that would have gone into producing such an excellent book. I believe Astrology Revealed is an important addition to the student's library of reference books.

Astrology, truly and simply, revealed!
I have been sifting through the reams of information books available on this amazing subject and have found many books leave points hazy or just untouched. Paul Fenton-Smith has done in a succinct and yet extremely informative book what many others have failed to do miserably. I can now step forward along my path of astrology apprenticeship with so much information and clarity, it has scared even me. WHether you are a newcomer or experienced interpreter, this book will have a profound effect on your current knowledge and your practice methods. A must read for anyone interested in this complex subject. Absolutely Fantastic!

Excellent Astrology Information
I recommend this Astrology book wholeheartedly as it gives clear and easily understandable information and good examples that demystify this often misunderstood subject. I love his writing style and I use all of his instructional books, including this one, Astrology Revealed, and especially Tarot Revealed and Palmistry Revealed, as references whenever I am doing readings. Highly recommend all of his work...

Great for the beginning Fenton collector
This is a superb book for those hard to determine Fenton pieces. In other words, it is great for the beginning Fenton collector.

Excellent book on fenton
This book is extremely comprehensive and covers a large amount of the fenton shapes and lines made between 1939-1980. The prices have been updated for 2001 and I have found them to be very accurate. If you are interested in learning more about fenton and it's worth this is one book you should definitely purchase.

Excellent Reference Book
Excellent reading for all Fenton collectors, especially new collectors. The identification photos and value guide is fantastic, covers patters and colors not found in other books dealing with Fenton Art Glass.

Pâte de Verre and Kiln Casting of Glass
Published in Paperback by GlassWear Studios (01 December, 2000)
Authors: James Kervin and Dan Fenton
Average review score:

Excellent casting and pate de verre resource
This is the best book I have seen for anyone who wants to learn the basics of glass casting and pate de verre using a kiln. It's more focused than Lundstrom's 3rd book, better written, with more coherent step-by-step instructions and lots of suggestions that will be useful to both the novice and the more experienced kiln caster. Highly recommended.

Note: This book is NOT, despite a previous reviewer's statements, about making beads. It has no information about beadmaking -- the earlier reviewer was probably confusing this book with Dan Fenton's "More Than You Ever Wanted to Know About Glass Beadmaking" (which is, as the title suggests, about beadmaking).

Incredible Book!
This book was awesome. It had everyhing I needed to know to get started with pate de vere. It was the only book I could find which talked about safety in my workshop. I liked it because it was not the visual fluff found in all the other books.

This book is one of the most comprehensive books
This book is everything you wanted to know about glass beadmaking. For only fourty daollars this book gives you a step by step account of what you should do to create beautiful glass creations. It starts out by telling you the tools needed to get started in one of the fastest growing arts in the country. The step by step instructions on how to create special types of glass beads is also exceptional. This book is a must buy book if you are interested in the art of Glass Bead Making!! -Nicholas J Johnson -Milwaukee Art Examiner

The Holy Bible in Modern English/Burgundy
Published in Hardcover by Destiny Pub (June, 1993)
Author: Ferrar Fenton
Average review score:

A Must-Have Study Bible
This Bible is truly a clear and accurate translation from the original Hebrew, Greek, and Chaldean texts. The books of the Bible have been re-arranged in chronological order so as to present a better understanding of the chain of human and Divine events. If you owned no other Bible than this one, and had no Concordance, or other cross-reference materials, you would gain a better understanding of God's word with this Bible alone. It is great for study because it uses classic dialectic English from which our current-day English is derived. The 'thees' and 'thous' are finally gone rendering a beautifully fluid binding of the scriptures into one exciting story after another. It reads more like a factual novel than a broken English translation from a foreign langauge arts course. I might point out to those who've never thought of it before, that when the KJV was written Old English had only about a 25,000 - word vocabulary. When Fenton finished his work in the 19th century, English had evolved to a language form that could dynamically describe (with accuracy) the events in the original Holy texts with over 10 times as many words at his disposal!

Yahweh's word restored
I wish to recomend this translation of the Holy Bible to anyone who seriously wishes to understand the meaning of scripture. If you were to compare the words used to correctly decipher the writing in Hebrew, to the words which Ferrar Fenton chose to use for his translation, you will find that his work is the most exact way to understand the Hebrew and Chaldean meaning, published even to this day. The Greek is also of the highest level due to the fact that Mr. Fenton chose to format the passages as to what they meant, instead of rewording them as they appeared in obselete languages, as previous translators did, leaving us searching the concordances and lexicons to find out what the passages meant.

If you choose this Bible, you will be fascinated by the ease of reading, and the ease of understanding the meaning of each individual event, or prophecy. Please purchace this Bible, and may Yahweh God bless you as you come to the next level of understanding.

Spiritual Leader Jay Williams Church of Jesus Christ Christian of New York

Precious Parts Restored
Bible prophecy says that the scriptures will be restored in the Last Days. This Bible is the restoration of the scriptures. Ferrar Fenton has painstakingly translated each word from the original Hebrew, Greek, Chaldean and Arabaic languages directly into modern English. The KJV, by comparison, was translated from the original languages first into Latin, then French, then into King's English in 1605. Ferrar Fenton's correct translation is a "must have" for every serious Christian.

Organization Theory and Design
Published in Hardcover by West Wadsworth (January, 1999)
Authors: Richard L. Daft, Fenton, and Craig
Average review score:

Readable and great information
Daft out did himself in this edition of his text. He includes book reviews and company profiles throughout each chapter to illustrate the theories he's describing. I read this for an MA course and found it easy to learn from. I'm even putting the information into practice at work! Not all textbooks are that helpful. *grin*

A Strong Guide in Organization Theory
This is a well-designed and comprehensive book in the area of organization theory. From introduction to the end, this book aims to teach the foundations of organization theory to readers.

There is a great awareness of new developments in the area of organization theory. The new developments such as team-based management models are integrated into the conventional wisdom wonderfully in the book. We are living in a world in which globalization and stiff competition dominates. We name this age as Information Age and corporations need new mentality and practices to adapt to challenging conditions this era brings about. This book presents some new approaches in global competition perspective to readers.

A Look Inside, Bookmark, In Practice, The New Paradigm and Case for Analysis are excellent peculiarities of the book.

Diagrams and other visual characterizations involved in the book give readers a big opportunity to digest topics recounted. Since this book is a detailed investigation of organization theory, you may miss some parts and feel confused. I can recommend another book, that is, Designing Organizations (Robey, D. and Sales, Carol A.), which is a summarized organization theory book with excellent cases.

If you want to understand organization theory with its basic foundations and details, this book is a must. You must exploit the rich knowledge of Professor Daft.

Strongly recommended.

Who Killed John Lennon?
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (September, 1989)
Author: Fenton Bresler
Average review score:

Nothing to Kill or Die For
This well researched book explores a possible political component to the 1980 murder of John Lennon. Outspoken and involved in political causes, the late former Beatle had a dossier by the FBI. He was considered an insurgent rebel by many politicos of the day.

Bresler's book does an excellent job of following the man who killed John Lennon. He accurately chronicles the assassin's movements during the latter part of 1980 and his boyhood overidentification with the former Beatle. Bresler does not skip a beat, his work takes his readers along that sad, psychotic trail Lennon's killer took in late 1980.

The assassin, caught in a love-hate obsession concerning John Lennon appears to be confused about his own identity. A former Beatles fan, the killer would, by 1966 turn against them because of John Lennon's comment that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. Irate and confused, the killer appeared to try to suppress his natural love for their music while justifying his hatred of John.

It is indeed the killer's behavior that calls attention to his desire to emulate the late Beatle. The assassin marries a woman who is Japanese; he expresses an enjoyment for the same types of art and music that Lennon publicly endorsed. By late 1980 the lines between reality and fantasy blurred; on his last day of work, the killer signed out of his company log book as "John Lennon." He then left Hawaii where he was then living for New York. An extremely confused man, he overidentifies with Holden Caulfield, the young protagonist of "Catcher in the Rye" infamy. He, like Holden declares a moratorium against "phonies" and in his mind, John Lennon is one of those phonies His fantasies ultimately consume him and the results are...devastating.

Bresler does an excellent job of chronicling the series of events that took place when and after John Lennon was murdered; he also does an excellent job of debunking many of the tabloid biographies of the day, e.g. Goldman and Guiliano's biographies of the late Beatle. John's youngest son, Sean, for example comes down hard on the Goldman book which portrays John as punitive and uncomfortable around children as a "total lie." He said that John did indeed enjoy being kissed by Sean and his older half brother Julian and that Goldman's statement otherwise was untrue.

I was impressed with the accuracy and objectivity of this work. It will certainly hold a reader's interest and is an invaluable source of information. I'm lucky to have this. It would be nice to see this back in print.

There is hope in speaking truth to power
John Lennon's death never DID make sense to me outside of the context of some kind of conspiracy. When he died, I was 27 years old. I had lived through the trauma of JFK's, RFK's and MLK's assassinations. I did not believe they were lone nut killings either, they were too important, and the question "who benefits?" usually leads to an obvious motive and an obvious suspect, even if it can't be proven. Once he was dead, I understood that John Lennon was the last hope of a dying spirit, the spirit of the 60s, the hope of a generation that had dreamed of creating a world of freedom, love and non-violence. That, to me, was the motive of a generation unwilling to pass the torch of life onto the next generation, the very baby boom they had created at the end of WWII to expand their own egos, yet were unwilling to acknowledge as having minds of their own and perhaps valid resentments having grown up with the values of a war torn parentage. This book dovetails nicely with the other books I have read and reviewed (see more about me) and the evidence is startling and massive to validate Bresler's theory that Chapman was, indeed, a mind controlled killer. The fact is, the CIA's shenanigans go far beyond MK-ULTRA, and have not stopped yet. They are gathering power as you read this, and looking the other way will not stop them. I'm not sure what will, but letting anyone else do your thinking for you won't. Learn as much as you can and know your own mind. Question authority, as the mantra from the 60s challenged, and do not allow the dreams and visions of the flower children to be silenced. They are not dead. They did take root. The toxic poison that surrounds us all is a deadly threat, but as long as we are open to learning and knowing and speaking truth to power, there is hope.

Army Dreamers.
A fascinating case~(was Lennon bumped off by Mark Chapman via someone else?, higher up who wanted to put the nozzle on a politically out-spoken singer-songwriter with an army of adoring young fans?)~Fenton Bresler tracked it for 8 years, conducting unprecedented interviews & extracting a ream of previously unreleased government documents. Though the paper trail to support the theory is still thin, the best one is an airline ticket found in Mark Chapman's hotel room; a Hawaii-New York connection departing December 5. But Chapman had actually purchased a Hawaii-Chicago ticket to depart December 2,with no connecting flight. The ticket found after his arrest had apparently been altered. None of his friends knew that he traveled on to New York. They thought he went to Chicago for a 3-day stay.

Arthur O'Connor, the detective who spent more time with Mark Chapman immediately following the murder than anyone else, saw things another way. He said "It is definately illogical to say that Mark committed the murder to make himself famous. He didn't want to talk to the press from the very start...It's possible Mark could have been used by somebody. I saw him the night of the murder. I studied him intensely. He looked as if he could of been programmed."

An alternative insight into bewildering history. I hope it comes back in-print someday.

Essential for the ATSF fan
A terrific book, full of lots of photos and colour reproductions of advertising posters etc. Was dissappointed in that it had no detail on the actual trains re locos and consists etc, but more on the PR side of the Chiefs. If you are after more in depth detail I recommend the book "Santa Fe Streamliners" the Chiefs and their Tribesmen by Karl Zimmermann. A must have addition for the set.

An ideal giftbook for railroad buffs
